The Bibbulmun Track - Western Australia
Length: 1002 kilometres over 54 days Episodes: 12 x 32 minutes Status: Filming complete, series in post-production. Finished episodes available online here. Hosted by: Caroline Grandjean-Thomsen The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long distance hiking trails, stretching over 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia to Albany on the south coast. The track is signposted with yellow triangular markers called a Waugal (or Wagyl), the rainbow serpent of Aboriginal culture, and leads walkers through towering karri and tingle forests, down mist-shrouded valleys, over giant granite boulders, breathtaking coastal heathlands and along windswept beaches.
Our team experienced a wide variety of challenges and emotions on their 2 month journey, from a medical emergency early on to tears of sadness leaving the beautiful Karri forests. Along the way they shared their days and nights with a wide variety of amazing people. Wading through mud, charging through storms, staring down snakes or playing cards late into the night, this was a grand adventure with a bit of absolutely everything. |
The Overland Track - Tasmania, Australia
Length: 65 / 84 kilometres over 7 days. Episodes: 4 x 25 minutes Status: Online version finished and being released here. TV version in pitch stage. Hosted by: Caroline Grandjean-Thomsen and Tyson Salijevic The Overland Track is one of Australia’s most famous hiking trails, winding through the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area. Starting near the visually stunning Cradle Mountain, hikers head south over vast open moorlands and through dark muddy rainforests, staying each night in basic public huts. It’s a beautiful journey through an ever changing landscape that will test each walker’s personal limits.
On a walk notorious for it's fickle weather, our hosts enjoyed a rare streak of beautiful blue skies. They made the most of it by climbing the snowy Cradle Mountain and Mount Ossa, swimming in freezing Lake Windemere, and watching the sunset from the Heli pads. Along the way they explored historic huts, ventured deep into an abandoned copper mine, and connected with various walkers including the father and daughter team of Gracie and Nick. |
The Hume and Hovell Track - New South Wales, Australia
Length: 450 kilometres over 24 days Episodes: 3 x 32 minutes Status: Filming complete. Early post-production Hosted by: Caroline Grandjean-Thomsen with Johan Augustin and Mathias Rangel Wulff Named after Hamilton Hume and Captain William Hovell, this track follows part of their historic journey as the first Europeans to find an inland route between Sydney and Melbourne. Starting at Hume's old home in Yass, the track heads south west along the edge of the Snowy Mountains, through open farmland, around giant lakes, to end at the Hovell Tree (A tree inscribed by Hovell) in Albury 450 km away.
Caroline was joined by Swedish adventure Journalist Johan for the first week, experiencing a vast variety of Australian bush. After stopping in Tumut, she walked alone (with our cameraman in tow) through violent thunderstorms and steep mountain climbs to Tumbarumba. There she was joined by her friend Matthias for the last amazing, varied and grueling week to Albury, when temperatures reached over 36 degrees Celsius. |
